I have been seeing images of Coulee Brewing’s tap room for a while now, but with no other reason to go to Lethbridge, Alberta, it seemed I would never make it there! So, despite being on the road for days traveling through Montana and Wyoming, a slight extension of our road trip to accommodate a stop here was a must. Coulee Brewing Co. opened in January 2016 and has been making consistent, high quality beers ever since. In every way I could see, their brewhouse is no exception to that standard.
Impressive. That’s the first word that comes to mind after my visit; from the sheer size of their facility, the open and inviting patio, to the high ceilings with hanging palate lighting throughout, it’s impressive indeed.
The bar is placed right at the front of the room to be the focal point as you walk in, with extra seating and a merchandise area off to one side, and a cozy fireplace with couches on the other. There’s even a large function room and space where I presume a band could set up. I wish the temperature hadn’t been creeping towards 40 degrees, or else I would have sat on their super inviting patio and played some full-sized lawn games.
Having tried most of their beers, I was excited to get my hands on their Berliner Weiss, which comes with an add-in syrup for a little extra flavour. It proved to be the perfect recipe for refreshment on a hot day! They have a huge food menu, much more than I expected; and it has beer pairing suggestions throughout which makes for a bit of fun. The food we had, a steak sandwich and enchiladas, really hit the spot, and I would have liked an excuse to try more.
What a treat this place is, especially for the summer, I hope the citizens of Lethbridge are taking full advantage, I know I would be!
